Marco Polo tells of the legendary warrior Khutulun, niece of Kublai Khan. She was noted for an ability to ride in among enemy ranks to snatch captives. She declared that she would only marry a man who could beat her in wrestling. They had to wager 100 horses on the wrestling match. She got 10,000 horses this way. Eventually she chose a mate from her father’s men, without wrestling him (although some accounts say she never married). There is some information on her and other Mongol women of note here.
